Viridis Eco

How it went

Viridis Eco has two sites, with the crop switching sites every year.

Ridder provided production speed and hours. Quality checks were done differently per person and the line in them was fairly arbitrary. One person looked more closely than another and there was no shared yardstick underneath. When something went wrong, sometimes action followed immediately and sometimes nothing happened.

Corrections were made daily, but always after the fact. What needed attention first the next day wasn't visible.

What they were looking for

Better checks, more person-focused, with clear improvement points per worker. That was their own goal at the start.

Underneath that is a need for objectivity. Giving a score of 1 to 5 by hand remains a judgement, and that judgement shifts with who is in front of you. You give one person a low score faster than another, especially if that person rides along with you or sits at your table. The wish is to assess what someone actually does or fails to do, so you can steer on those scores.

What the pilot involves

The Ridder connection is running and multiple weekly checks have started. From the beginning a new culture has to form in which being checked is normal, with the focus on making people better at their work.

The conversations with Viridis produced a number of points that were implemented right away. For example a second way of scoring, where you enter the number you count during a check and it is automatically converted into a score from 1 to 5.
